Welcome to the Ethosphere

Hello and welcome to the Ethosphere! My name is Thomas Windom, owner of Ethos Financial Planning. Thanks for stopping by. My goal with the Ethosphere is to provide you, my readers, with educational content that you can immediately apply to better your financial life. We will explore various topics related to personal finances including, retirement planning, investment management, taxes, insurance, debt management and many more. However, in this first blog post, I’d like to take some time to give you an introduction to Ethos, our mission, our vision and what we’re all about. I hope that this article gives you insight into who we are and why we exist.

The meaning behind our name:

When it came time for me to choose a name for my business, I knew that I wanted to pick a name that reflected my approach to financial planning, which is values based financial planning. Values based planning is an approach to financial planning that aims to align a client’s financial strategies and decisions with their core personal values, life goals, and aspirations. It involves a deep exploration of what matters most to a client – beyond financial metrics- such as family, freedom, security, and philanthropy.

The websters dictionary definition of ethos is: the distinguishing character, sentiment, moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution.

I chose the name Ethos Financial Planning, because I believe that values are the “Ethos” of our identity. As the definition states, they are the guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution, and should help guide our financial decisions.

Technology advancements & implications

While advancements in technology have increased productivity, fueled breakthroughs in health and wellness, given us access to an abundance of information, and enabled us to be more connected. It has come at a cost. There is a war for our personal data, we are constantly bombarded with advertisements, and deciphering the truth in the never-ending barrage of content has become extremely difficult. To add to this, our generation is busier, more distracted, and have more options to spend money on things that we don’t need, than generations in the past. For many, these factors have made personal finances extremely difficult.

Human connection in a tech society

Whether it’s Ethos or someone else, a financial advisor can help you cut through the noise, make better financial decisions, and focus on what’s most important to you.

Our mission at Ethos is to help you gain clarity, confidence, and peace of mind with your finances. Our vision is that every client will live an intentional, purpose driven life, that is fueled by their values.

We exist to help you focus on what matters, simplify your finances, and empower you to live the life that you desire.
